Frequently Asked Questions
Jiu Jitsu doesn’t work on the streets.
Jiu jitsu is highly effective in real-life situations. Learning the theory of control, distance, and diffusion has been tested and proved true numerous occasions. Mixed with other aspects such as striking and throws (which we practice as well), it most definitely works in the streets.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
We have trial Gi’s at the gym you will be able to use while you’re seeing if we are a good fit. When you sign up, we will get your first Gi for you. Typically, gym clothes will be fine. “Terms” for more extensive gear are rash guards, fighter shorts, and spats.
I’m not in shape, do I need to be?
You do not have to be in shape. Just as it is for anything, everyone has to start somewhere!
How does billing work?
We bill monthly. There is no contract, but we do offer discounts when months are paid 3, 6, or 12 at a time.
I’m concerned my child isn’t sporty enough, will that matter?
It is actually quite the opposite, often times, children who aren’t considered to be athletic thrive in Jiu Jitsu. BJJ is just as mental as it is physical, and the two go hand in hand.
I’m concerned martial arts will turn my child into a bully.
The most important aspect of our gym is teaching respect and application of experience. We teach our children to understand how and when Jiu Jitsu is applied. Typically, it makes children more confident to stand up to bullies and creates valued traits such as humility, kindness, and reserve.
What if I don’t want to compete?
You do not have to compete to be a part of our gym or included in promotions. Everyone has their own pace, life, goals, and limitations. We will support you one hundred percent on the route you decide to take.
